Skills that open possibilities
Creative learning gives girls a place to practise, make, solve problems and discover what their hands and imaginations can do.
Nyar Kwata Foundation works alongside women and girls in Uganda to protect dignity, strengthen voice and widen access to opportunity. Our work connects practical livelihoods, education and health awareness, gender equality, community dialogue, social inclusion, environmental wellbeing and creative talent development—responding to needs with communities and partners.
Rooted in dignity, resilience and the belief that every woman and girl has value.

We believe lasting change is built when people are treated with dignity, when voices are listened to, and when practical opportunities help talent grow.
Creative learning gives girls a place to practise, make, solve problems and discover what their hands and imaginations can do.
Storytelling, dialogue and community engagement can challenge harmful attitudes and make room for women and girls to speak and lead.
We stand for a world free from gender-based violence, racism and discrimination—where a person's worth is never in question.

The foundation’s early girls’ skilling initiative showed the value of providing materials, patient guidance and room to learn. Knitting and handmade crafts remain one expression of the wider commitment to practical skills, resilience and opportunity for women and girls.
In communities where household incomes can be uncertain and the costs of school, transport, health needs and daily essentials compete for limited resources, one response is rarely enough. Our wider mission connects learning, livelihoods, health awareness, protection from discrimination and community-led solutions.
Our programmes combine practical learning, mentorship, advocacy, creative expression and community action so that women and girls can strengthen their skills, make informed choices, build confidence and participate fully in shaping their futures.
Nyar Kwata Foundation brings together connected programmes that respond to the realities of women, girls and families. We link skills and livelihoods with education, health awareness, equality, community voice, environmental wellbeing and creative opportunity.
Practical and creative skills help women and girls build confidence, strengthen their capabilities and explore income opportunities. Through skills learning, enterprise awareness, mentorship and market connections, the foundation encourages pathways toward resilient livelihoods.
Mentorship, learning encouragement, life skills and access to educational resources can help girls remain engaged in learning, set goals and prepare for further education, training and work.
Accessible information on health, hygiene, nutrition, menstrual health and family wellbeing supports informed choices and helps individuals connect with appropriate care and services.
The foundation challenges gender-based violence, racism and discriminatory norms through awareness, dialogue and community engagement, promoting safety, equal opportunity and respect for every person.
Community visits, listening and local partnerships help identify the strengths and challenges of families, include people who are often overlooked and support responses shaped with the community.
Safe water, good sanitation and a healthy environment protect family wellbeing, reduce daily burdens on women and girls and create better conditions for learning, work and community life.

A creative platform of Nyar Kwata FoundationTalent lives in every community. Yet for many young people, limited access to training, mentorship, equipment and professional networks can keep ability unseen. Nyar Kwata Films Studio is a creative platform within Nyar Kwata Foundation’s wider mission to discover, nurture, develop and promote emerging acting and performance talent, especially among women, girls and young people who have had fewer opportunities.
Through acting, scriptwriting, cinematography, camera operation, sound recording and editing, and special-effects makeup, learners discover the different crafts that make a production possible. The studio brings performance and technical learning together so young people can develop both on-camera and behind-the-scenes skills, strengthen self-expression and teamwork, and explore pathways into the creative sector.
We aim to start with what women, girls and families say they need, build on local strengths, connect people to reliable information and partners, and be accountable for what is delivered.
Make space for women, girls and families to describe priorities, strengths and obstacles in their own words.
Support practical learning, mentorship and access to useful information that can strengthen confidence and choices.
Promote respect, challenge discrimination and connect people to appropriate support through trusted partners.
Bring together community groups, mentors, service providers and responsible partners so promising ideas can grow.
“Resilience grows when dignity is protected, voice is respected, and opportunity is shared.”
For women and girls, stronger futures are built through safety, learning, voice and practical community support.

Public reporting in 2023 described the founder’s girls’ knitting initiative and early support from The Pollination Project. The activity gave girls an opportunity to practise handmade skills and learn together.
From skills and livelihoods to education, health awareness, gender equality, community outreach and Nyar Kwata Films Studio, the foundation’s work is focused on helping women and girls build confidence, voice and a future they can shape.
